NovaTone™

AuraFlex™

(Crystalline Articulation)
(Velvety Resilience)

NovaTone™ is for the seeker of absolute truth. It is a high-density, industrial-grade crystalline resin designed to provide the most transparent, high-definition connection possible.

  • The Sound: Maximum "chime" and high-end sparkle. It offers surgical note separation and a glass-like attack.

  • The Feel: Rigid and uncompromising. There is zero "drag" on the string, allowing for lightning-fast alternate picking.

  • The Trade-off: Like a professional ceramic blade, NovaTone™ is brittle. Its high density makes it susceptible to chipping if struck against metal hardware or dropped on hard surfaces.

  • Best For: Recording artists, technical shredders, and players who demand every harmonic detail be heard.

AuraFlex™ is for the player who seeks the "Flow State." This resin is engineered for resilience, providing a smoother, more organic interaction with the string.

  • The Sound: Warm, harmonic-rich, and punchy. It tames harsh transients while maintaining a clear, authoritative mid-range.

  • The Feel: Features a "velvet-grip" texture that feels bonded to your fingers. It is Flexible AF, offering a fluid glide across the strings with a natural, snappy recovery.

  • The Advantage: AuraFlex™ is our most durable workhorse. It is highly wear-resistant and much less likely to chip or snap under the pressure of aggressive stage play.

  • Best For: Live performance, heavy-handed power players, and those who want a pick that "breathes" with their dynamics.

🧪 THE LAB: A Deep Dive into Axebuilder Nu-D Pix

📖Technical Reference & Glossary

Because our products and methods are not typical or standard, we don’t believe in using traditional terms like "Light, Medium, or Heavy" as they don't tell the whole story. We prefer to gauge by Mass, Modulus, Mechanical Advantage and Sonic Characteristics.

So we created the X-Rating system to help you identify and understand what each profile does best. That's right, Nu-D Pix are X-Rated.  But how you use them is entirely up to you. The X-Rating is indicated on each pick by counting how many x's are surrounding the "Nu-D Pix" logo on each pick. The more x's it has, the thicker the and denser the material is.  If there are no x's, then it's a NR (Not Rated). Use this guide to calibrate your experience and fine tune your connection.

📐 The X-Rating Guide (Gauge Calibration)

At Axebuilder, we’ve decoupled thickness from resistance. Our proprietary resins allow for a high-mass profile that maintains a fluid, snappy response.

💡 The Flex Paradox: Because of our unique material density, Nu-D Pix will always feel "faster" and more flexible than a traditional plastic pick of the same thickness. For example, our thinnest pick (NR) is 1.00mm, but it has the feel and flexibility of a traditional plastic “Thin” pick which is about half as thick (measuring 0.46 - 0.50 mm).

Don’t let the numbers scare you. Trust the X-Rating scale, drop assumptions, and try a few sizes to find which Pix are tuned to your hands and playing styles.

🔍 Tactile Topography: Recessed & Offset Logos

Our recessed logo designs serve as advanced micro-structures that simultaneously optimize grip friction, mechanical flex, and structural integrity.

The Tri-Factor Architecture (Grip, Flex, & Strength)

By pocketing the logo into the face of the resin rather than printing or raising it, we unlock three distinct mechanical advantages:

  •     Anatomical Offset Grip: Look closely at your hand: when you hold a pick, your thumb and index finger do not meet in a perfectly symmetrical square. They cross at an offset, diagonal angle. Our logos are strategically offset to match this natural human anatomy, creating a tactile channel where the ridges of your fingerprints lock in for maximum slip-resistance without requiring harsh, abrasive grip tape.

  •     Engineered Flex Lines: By recessing the material in precise geometric paths, the logo acts as a micro-hinge. It allows the pick to yield slightly under high-impact stress, giving you a fluid, forgiving release off the string while maintaining a high-mass profile.

  •     I-Beam Structural Strength: How do we add flex without making the pick weak? We use the physics of an architectural I-beam. The full-thickness outer perimeter of the pick acts as a rigid chassis, while the recessed logo removes interior mass. This ensures the pick can flex dynamically under heavy play but will never experience structural fatigue or snapping.

🧬 The Nexus Exception:
Why Symmetry Rules the Flextrum™

Eliminating Directional Bias: The Nexus is built around a central, mechanical flex cutout (The Aperture). If we placed an offset, asymmetrical logo above that aperture, the material would be thinner on one side than the other. This would create a directional bias—meaning the pick would feel slightly softer on a downstroke and stiffer on an upstroke.

Identical Dynamic Return: To guarantee absolute latency-free performance, the upstroke and the downstroke must behave identically. The symmetrical logo ensures that stress lines are distributed with mathematical equality across both shoulders of the pick. Whether you are sweeping down or alternate-picking up, the mechanical snap-back response remains perfectly uniform.

🧬 The Nexus Exception: Why Symmetry Rules the Flextrum™

You may notice that while the Apex, Fusion, and Classic utilize our offset topography, The Nexus™ features a perfectly symmetrical logo. This is a deliberate engineering requirement dictated by the Flextrum aperture.

⚠️ Lab Advisory: Left-Handed Offset Orientation

Because our offset logo topography functions as a physical I-beam grip, the structural physics of our solid chassis shapes (The Apex™, The Fusion™, and The Classic™) are directionally optimized for the human hand. We do not believe left-handed players should ever have to compromise by playing a right-handed tool backward.
Right-Hand Offset
Left-Hand Offset

We have fully deployed dedicated Left-Handed Offset (LHO) variants across our entire solid chassis profiles, ensuring true ergonomic compliance for every player.

🛑 Tactile Encoding: The Calibration Dots

Every left-hand offset Nu-D features an integrated tactile landmark. While right-handed models (RHO) are stamped with our standard hyphen (Nu-D), our left-handed models (LHO) are encoded with three vertical calibration dots (Nu⋮D)—the international Braille sequence for the letter "L."

🎛️ CROSS-ORIENTATION PHYSICS (THE REVERSE TORQUE EXPERIMENT)

Can a right-handed guitarist play an LHO tool, or vice versa? Absolutely. In fact, we highly encourage mechanical experimentation on the bench.

When you grip a Nu-D of the opposite orientation, you intentionally reverse the structural force lines of the pick. Instead of acting as a rigid support beam, the recessed logo pocket acts as a micro-hinge under the rotational torque of your stroke. This introduces a unique, more compliant vertical flex that changes how the pick releases from the string, yielding a softer transient attack and a more fluid, dynamic feel.

LHO 1_edited.png

⚠️ The Structural Stress Warning

Reversing the engineered orientation puts unconventional mechanical strain on the resin core. Before you experiment with cross-orientation play, please consult our structural safety guidelines to avoid premature tool failure:

  • Ratings XX, XXX, and XXXX (1.50mm to 2.50mm): High Headroom. Our high-mass resin cores possess exceptional structural density at these thicknesses. The risk of material fatigue is minimal, making these ratings safe for reverse-vector experimentation.

  • Ratings NR and X (1.00mm to 1.25mm): High Vulnerability. These lower gauge, high-compliance variants are engineered near their physical material limits. Reversing the orientation over-stresses the micro-hinges under aggressive play, significantly increasing the risk of structural micro-fractures or catastrophic breakage.

Experiment responsibly at your own risk
